As Principal at Luminate, Jo-Ann leads the foundation’s work in Malaysia and helps advance regional efforts on platform accountability and countering mis- and disinformation in Asia.
Jo-Ann has over 15 years of experience working with Malaysian civil society in various roles – as a lawyer, journalist, human rights activist, and researcher. Prior to joining Luminate, she helped form and develop the Freedom of Expression Cluster, a group of organisations working on media strengthening, legal reform, and the right to information. Jo-Ann has also served as an adviser to the Centre for Independent Journalism, a legal adviser for Human Rights Watch, and a journalist and editor.
