Engagement Session with Hon. Senator Datuk Seri Dr. Mujahid bin Yusof

Kuala Lumpur, 16 December 2025 – INITIATE.MY’s Communications and Partnership Officer, Eow Shiang Yen and Peace Lab’s stakeholders paid a courtesy visit to YB Senator Datuk Seri Dr. Mujahid Yusof Rawa at the Parliament of Malaysia as part of its ongoing engagement on religious governance and public policy. The meeting provided an opportunity for open and constructive discussion on the Mufti (Federal Territories) Bill 2024, with the aim of sharing perspectives grounded in Malaysia’s constitutional framework and contemporary social realities.

The discussion underscored the importance of understanding the historical development of Islamic thought and institutions when engaging with present-day policy debates. Participants reflected on how interpretations and practices have evolved across different periods and contexts, highlighting the value of historical awareness in shaping balanced and responsive approaches to religious administration.

YB Senator Datuk Seri Dr. Mujahid Yusof Rawa also emphasised that intellectual engagement on religious matters must remain attentive to context and circumstance. The exchange highlighted the importance of considering social conditions, lived experiences, and diverse viewpoints within the Muslim community to support thoughtful deliberation and constructive public discourse.

The conversation further addressed the role of public policy in strengthening social cohesion within a plural society. Participants noted the importance of inclusive narratives, clear communication, and sustained engagement in fostering moderation, mutual respect, and shared understanding across Malaysia’s diverse communities.
