
Dr. Vizla Kumaresan
She is a visiting expert at INITIATE.MY, is a clinical psychologist renowned for her extensive work with marginalised communities in Malaysia. Her expertise encompasses gender-related issues, notably incels and online misogyny. She is the founder of the Advancement Initiative, dedicated to challenging male supremacism and sexual/gender minorities-phobia through fostering dialogue and discourse. At INITIATE.MY, Dr. Vizla has played a pivotal role in enhancing Malaysia’s reintegration programme for at-risk communities such as former security detainees and their family members through Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MPHSS) initiatives. She holds a PhD from Monash University Malaysia and completed her clinical psychology training at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), where she earned her MA in 2009. Her academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science and MA in Applied Social Research from Monash University Australia. Currently, Dr. Vizla is focused on transforming her dissertation into a book titled “Trans Men in Malaysia: Decision-Making, Masculinity, and Manhood.
