Selection Announcement: 2023 Strategic Communications Festival in Bali, Indonesia

Kuala Lumpur, 3 November 2023 – The Initiative to Promote Tolerance and Prevent Violence (INITIATE.MY) would like to congratulate participants from Group 4 and 2 for being selected to represent Malaysia in the upcoming regional Strategic Communications Festival that is set to take place in Bali, Indonesia this December 2023. 

Group 4 members are Kennimrod Sariburaja from the Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counterterrorism (SEARCCT), Yustina Ishak from the National Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM), Perasath Servai a freelance videographer, Irdina Azira from Universiti Malaya (UM), Jonathan Glenn Wong from Victoria University Student Council and Raja Nur Hidayah from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).

Group 2 members are Elisa Shafiqah from Malaysian Youth Diplomacy, Afiq Ismaizam from the Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counterterrorism (SEARCCT), Sharifah Nursyafiqah from The Rakyat Post, Dr. Alfonso from the National Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM) and Peter Chew MingCong from the Victoria University Student Council.

The United Nations Office on Drug and Crime (UNODC) will host the festival that  features selected participants from national-level trainings that were held in Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines throughout the year of 2023. Participants will showcase their strategic communications projects on preventing violent extremism within their own respective contexts. The objective is to facilitate the regional exchange of best practices in the field of PCVE, with an emphasis on the crucial role of strategic communications in averting the risks of radicalisation in the online and offline spaces.
